Thomas Riess - Wonderland

In the comprehensive monograph Wonderland, the artist Thomas Riess presents his works from the last seven years. Riess, who primarily works in the media of painting and video, deals intensively with the complex topics of time and reality. His works show mystical landscapes, floating abstract forms and dissolving figures - everything seems to oscillate between being and appearance, reality and illusion, event and memory. The focus of his art is often people in a society flooded with media. Faces that have often changed beyond recognition confront viewers with fundamental questions about individuality and authenticity. Riess' images and video works are not only aesthetically appealing, but also irritating and challenging. They remind us of our own transience and are dedicated to existence as a constant flow of the fleeting.
